This is a critical review of the book American Roulette: The Social Logic of Death Penalty Sentencing Trials by Sarah Beth Kaufman. This review covers the topics of race, strategic trial considerations, victim impact testimony, the future dangerousness standard, and death-qualified juries. While the book is not without its merits, this review primarily focuses on its shortcomingsthe most significant of which is the lack of interaction with counterarguments.
