abstract
A 94GHz millimeter-wave system for the detection of cracks using Weiner Filter-based Layered Synthetic Aperture Radar (WL-SAR) technique is presented. The near-field millimeter-wave dual differential probe detection system is used to detect corrosion precursor pittings and cracks. To enhance the detection of these pittings and cracks from the images, a WL-SAR technique that uses the Green's function for layered structures and a Weiner Filter-based deconvolution is applied. The effects of a horizontal and vertical direction of the scans on the resulting images were also studied. This system is capable of detecting cracks of less than 1mm and pittings of 0.5mm. Our results show the feasibility of employing a millimeter-wave system in the field of aviation maintenance and checks.
