abstract

  • Abstract It is hardly a matter of dispute that there is a normative dimension to reason and rationality. Actions, beliefs, and inferences can be reasonable or unreasonable. Reasons for belief or action can be good or bad. A body of beliefs can be rationally coherent or incoherent. A persons behaviour can be rational or irrational. Presumably, then, there are norms or standards which contribute to determining such matters. The essays in this collection deal with the normative dimension of reason and rationality and with how it should be understood as relating to the natural world.
