abstract

  • 126 sedentary women (4412 yr, 44.85% body fat, 35.46 kg/m2) were randomized to participate in a no diet or exercise control group (C) or the Curves Complete 90day Challenge (CC), Weight Watchers Points Plus (WW), Jenny Craig (JC), or Nutrisystem Advance Select (NS) weight loss programs for 12wks. Selfreported diet quality was assessed on a 010 point Likert scale at 0, 4, 8, and 12wks. Data were analyzed by MANOVA and are presented as percent changes after 12wks. No significant interactions were seen among groups in changes in appetite (C 12.220; CC 4.041; WW 1.650; JC 14.327; NS 3.133 %, p=0.69), hunger (C 16.331; CC 1.247; WW 10.452; JC 0.947; NS 10.688 %, p=0.48), satisfaction with food (C 3.849; CC 4.333; WW 0.826; JC 3.034; NS 0.733 %, p=0.93), feelings of fullness (C 0.332; CC 1.129; WW 5.321; JC 10.737; NS 1.446 %, p=0.76), or general feelings of energy (C 19.467; CC 55.367; WW 56.888; JC 28.456; NS 38.959 %, p=0.23). Mean changes in diet quality were greater in the CC and JC groups compared to control (C 2.240; CC 8679; WW 5868; JC 99158; NS 6492 %, p=0.02). Results reveal that participants generally perceived satisfaction with the diets and that diet quality was significantly better in the CC and JC diet groups compared to a nondiet controls.
