abstract
In July 1975 a single light gray male mouse was found by Mrs. Wilda Higgins in a first litter of 6 from a pair of C3H/HeSn in a colony maintained by Dr. Marianna Cherry at the Jackson Laboratory. Six more light gray mice were found among the 27 offspring in subsequent litters from the same pair. Genetic tests have shown this color change is due to a new recessive mutation called ashen (symbol ash) located on chromosome 9. 1979 American Genetic Association.
