abstract
This paper reports on the preliminary findings of a study that examined the data quality (DQ) assurance practices of research data repositories by analyzing their applications for the CoreTrustSeal Core Trustworthy Data Repositories certifica-tion. The paper identified what DQ meant to domain-based and institutional re-search data repositories and interpreted those through the DQ literature. Domain-based repositories used eleven dimensions to define their understanding of quali-ty, while institutional data repositories used only six. The analysis showed a posi-tive correlation between the level of curation and the subtlety of DQ specifica-tions, pointing to the centrality of data quality assurance (DQA) to data curation work. Institutional and domain-based data repositories and data curators can use the studys findings in conceptualizing, designing, and evaluating their DQA workflows.
