abstract
This project investigated the effects of oil on evaporation and condensation of Refrigerant-22 in smooth and augmented tubes. The presence of oil does affect the heat transfer and pressure drop, often (but not always) in a negative direction. The effect of oil can be different in smooth and augmented tubes. However, the magnitude of its effect in augmented tubes is usually within a few percentage points of its magnitude in smooth tubes. The advantage of micro-fin tubes relative to smooth and low-fin tubes with pure refrigerant is maintained with refrigerant-oil mixtures.
