abstract
The heat transfer performance of refrigerant R-123 in the spray evaporation environment was evaluated for pure refrigerant and for the case of lubricant addition. Tests were conducted with triangular-pitch tube bundles made from enhanced boiling tubes, enhanced condensation tubes, and plain-surface tubes. A second enhanced boiling surface tube bundle was also tested so a comparison could be made between the square- and triangular-pitch geometries. It was found that the heat transfer coefficients were dependent on the film-feed supply rate, oil concentration, and heat flux. The enhanced boiling surface yielded higher heat transfer coefficients than the enhanced condensation surface or the plain surface.
