abstract
The development of a mass flow rate measuring device, which uses a turbine rotor as a drag body, has recently demonstrated that the most widely accepted mathematical drag model of the rotor needs improvement. A new model, which considers form drag, as well as other axial drag components, has been shown to be quite accurate for a selected group of flat bladed rotors, particularly at higher Reynolds Number flow rates. The computer simulation is useful in designing rotors for minimized thrust bearing loads and in designing mass flow turbine rotors with special drag characteristics.
