NONDIMENSIONAL STUDY OF HEAT TRANSFER FROM A TWO-REGION SURFACE PROBE. Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A numerical model was used to investigate nondimensional heat transfer from a two-region cylindrical surface probe to a semi-infinite solid. After contact was made between the probe and solid, the inner and outer probe temperatures decayed as heat was transferred from the probe. Heat transfer from the probe to the solid was affected not only by the thermal properties of the probe and solid but also by the thermal contact resistance at the interface. Dimensionless numbers were used to investigate a wide range of thermal contact resistances, probe sizes, initial temperatures, solid materials, and transient times.
