abstract
This paper addresses the pressure-induced steady-state diffusion of an ideal fluid through a sheared and uniformly stretched isotropic nonlinearly elastic layer. The interaction between the diffusing fluid and the large deformation of the elastic layer is accounted for by formulating the problem in the context of the theory of interacting continua. A rubber membrane is supported on a porous rigid plate. The upper surface of the layer is in contact with a liquid under high pressure, and the lower surface is at atmospheric pressure.
