abstract
We investigate the use of the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm to the problem of estimating sequences of two-dimensional constellation signals transmitted over a Rayleigh fading channel. The resulting iterative algorithm does not require a carrier recovery loop, and is shown to have a simple linear form. Simulation results for binary signaling indicate that it performs significantly better than previously proposed algorithms.
