abstract
A mixed finite element scheme with a dynamic as well as a static coefficient of friction is used in the evaluation of contact stresses in pin-loaded plates. The case of pin-loaded aluminum plate is studied to obtain better correlation with experimental results, and a pin-loaded orthotropic plate behavior as predicted by an analytical solution is compared with the present predictions. A hybrid (experimental/ numerical) technique is used to estimate the static and dynamic coefficients of friction of the aluminum pin/plate system. An elastic-plastic analysis based failure model of pin-loaded laminates is also presented and illustrated by examples which indicate when bearing, shearout and tensile failure occur in the laminate mechanical joints. 1988.
