abstract
Analytical solutions for displacements, natural frequencies and buckling loads of cross-ply circular cylindrical shells under various boundary conditions are developed using the classical, first-order and third-order shell theories and the state-space technique. The third-order theory of shells of Reddy accounts for cubic variation of surface displacements through the thickness of the laminate and there is no need for shear correction factors. Analytical solutions are developed for simply-supported, clamped and free boundary conditions, and the effect of boundary conditions, lamination schemes and shear deformation on the deflections. stresses, natural frequencies and buckling loads is investigated. 1989.
