abstract
A perturbation analysis of Yamamoto's bearing-clearance model to account for ellipticity of the clearance circle predicts a 2E response over the speed range for which the bearing is engaged. A sharp resonance is predicted at running speeds that are a little larger than 25% of the rotor's critical speed. For small values of =e/a, the nondimensional bearing clearance, a broad speed range is predicted with significant levels of 2E (twice-running-speed) response.
