Putting Traffic to the Test Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • AbstractIn this chapter, we use real-world web traffic data from Comscore to show that mobile news website visitors are less likely to spend time reading and engaging with news sites relative to desktop and laptop visitors. This finding suggests that learning from news among mobile visitors to news websites is relatively unlikely to be robust. In addition, these patterns of use offer support for the physical and cognitive access (PCA) framework, which emphasizes that having physical access to information should not guarantee attention and thus, should not be mistaken for exposure. These data also lend support to the results of our laboratory experiments.
