Empirical Results for Wideband Multidimensional Spectrum Usage Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Cognitive Radio (CR) systems with spectrum awareness feature is a promising approach to use spectrum effectively. However, accurate modeling of spectrum utilization is crucial for the development and performance evaluation of such systems. Hence, in this paper, a wideband multidimensional spectrum occupancy measurement campaign is conducted to study the evolution of RF spectrum over time, frequency, and space dimensions simultaneously. The measurements are performed over three consecutive days considering 700-3000MHz frequency band at four different locations concurrently. The measurement results show low utilization of the 700-3000MHz frequency band with different utilization percentage at each location. Furthermore, the measurements confirm that the spectrum occupancy highly depends on the time, frequency, and location. As a result, multidimensional spectrum measurement and analysis are vital for accurate spectrum utilization modeling and performance evaluation of CR systems. 2009 IEEE.
