abstract
Natural salt pollution severely constrains development and use of water supplies in several major river basins in the Southwest. Federal, state, regional, and local water management agencies continue to investigate and implement measures to prevent salts from entering the rivers, remove salts from water supplies, and otherwise deal with excessive salinity. This article provides a general overview of natural salt pollution in the Permian Basin Region as well as studies and projects dealing with its control or mitigation.
