abstract
A methodological procedure to develop climate indices from crop-growth simulation models is presented. Because of the recent research interest in developing simulation models, the index methodology is applicable to a wide variety of crops. Further utilizing simulation models the index is specific to a crop, growth stage of the crop, and geographical area. An empirical example for corn production in east-central Illinois suggests that the proposed index helps explain corn yield. 1989.
