abstract
The dynamics of the turning operation on a lathe is commonly assumed to be linear, stochastic, or chaotic without experimental verification. Here we report three independent approaches-two statistical tests and a Lyapunov exponents-based test-to establish the presence of low-dimensional chaos in the sensor signals from actual experiments on a lathe. 1995 The American Physical Society.
