abstract
The ultra-high lime process has significant potential advantages as a method for removing scale-forming chemicals from recycled cooling water. Removal of silica during ultra-high lime treatment can be described as the formation of monocalcium silicate with a solubility product of 10** minus **7**. **8. Temperature does not have a great effect on the solubility product between 23 degree and 50 degree C. High sulfate concentration (50 mM) affected the ion activity products obtained. Preliminary cost estimates show the ultra-high lime process applied in a combined sidestream/make-up configuration was less costly than the high lime process for the system studied.
