abstract
Interactions between a sulfate green rust (GR) and zero-valent iron (ZVI) were evaluated during dechlorination of tetrachloroethylene (PCE). Batch kinetic experiments were conducted at pH 8, 9, and 10 with each reductant by itself and with the two combined. Kinetic models were used to predict PCE removal in experiments with the combined reductants, with the assumption that there would be no interactions between them. However, more rapid PCE removal was observed in combined GR-ZVI experiments than was predicted, indicating that GR and ZVI interacted synergistically. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 228th ACS National Meeting (Philadelphia, PA 8/22-26/2004).
