abstract
A micro star tracker suitable for small spacecraft is designed combining a high quantum efficiency sensor with a high speed dedicated microcomputer and a lightweight high aperture optical system. Software developed for this camera features a star sub-catalog organization and access scheme designed to minimize search time. We discuss design tradeoffs and decisions that led to this design and indicate possible variations. Also presented are results from laboratory and night-sky experimentation that supports the efficacy and practicality of the new design and algorithms.
