Online Professional Development: Challenges of Observation of Secondary Classroom Simulation Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • This paper is a description of a professional development program for secondary teachers that uses technology to provide a view into the classroom. Teachers were able to observe an expert Project-Based Learning facilitator working with students. In addition to the teachers watching from their homes across an area of over 60,000 square miles, another set of teachers watched from a room in the same building where the students were being observed. The technology challenges of working with all groups during the preparation, observation, and debrief of the lesson are discussed. Results of the teacher survey are given, showing that teachers gained insights into teaching in a more student-centered classroom environment.
