Some new results on the oscillatory behavior of impulse and step responses for linear time invariant systems

In this paper, we examine the zero crossings of impulse and step responses of linear, time-invariant systems. Of particular interest are positive impulse response transfer functions and nonminimum phase systems. The results presented in this paper provide guidelines for designing controllers that guarantee non-overshooting step response.
