Embedded Radiating Filters in Metamaterial Substrates Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • Slot antennas are integrated with EBG defect resonators and filters embedded inside metamaterial substrates. The aim is to integrate an antenna with a filter in a multi-functional periodic substrate which enables both highly efficient radiation and narrow band pre-selection filtering. The integration of both components as a single entity in a single substrate allows a compact realization of these components while still maintaining the superior performance of each of the elements. Both high-K Duroid periodically spaced in air and Titania periodically spaced in low-K polymer were used in the integration of the two components. The results show that the bandgap structure suppresses surface modes improving efficiency while the low loss nature of the dielectric confined resonators provides a high-Q filtering performance.
