abstract
In this paper, we present a time-varying matching design for electrically small antennas in pulse-based systems. The proposed technique is applied to small loop antennas in the receiving mode. Simulated results show that substantial improvement in the overall antenna efficiency can be achieved without dispersion that is one of the major limitations of a conventional matching network of equivalent complexity. The large pulse amplitude and short pulse width achieved by the proposed matching scheme make it suitable for receiving systems under common modulation schemes such as PAM and OOK.
