  • Don Ihdes voice has been influential in philosophy of technology for more than four decades. Credited with writing the first monograph on philosophy and technology in English, Technics and Praxis, in 1979, Ihde has published 25 books and numerous articles over the course of his fifty-year career. In recognition of these contributions, among others, Ihde was the recipient of the first Society for Philosophy and Technology Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received in Darmstadt, Germany, in 2017. This volume seeks to introduce his work to scholars from a variety of backgrounds who have not accompanied Ihde through his journey, bring those who have accompanied Ihde up to date on the latest developments of his work, and to encourage the use and critical dissemination of these ideas from scholars from other disciplines. The introduction includes a concise summary of the most important movements in Ihdes career, with modest references to Ihdes corpus; central to his career is the development of postphenomenology, a blend of pragmatism and phenomenology, that recognizes the mediating role that technology plays. The introduction also includes brief summaries of all of the chapter in the book, which have been contributed by Trish Glazebrook, Yuk Hui, Lenore Langsdorf, Glen Miller and Carl Mitcham, Ingrid Richardson, Robert C. Scharff, Paul Thompson, Peter-Paul Verbeek, Galit Wellner, Zhang Kang, as well as Ihde himself.
