Search for New Gauge Bosons in p¯p Collisions at s=1.8 TeV

We have searched for the production of a neutral gauge boson (Z) with mass above 100 Gev/c2 in p collisions with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We present a 95% confidence level (C.L.) limit on the Zproduction cross section. We combine the Zlimit with that from our previous dielectron search; the combined result sets a limit of MZ>412 GeV/c2 (95% C.L.), assuming standard-model coupling strengths. In addition, the absence of any evidence for an effective muon-quark contact interaction is used to set a lower limit of 1.6 TeV (95% C.L.) on an associated muon-quark compositeness scale. © 1992 The American Physical Society.
