abstract
This paper presents a new approach to generating capacity reliability evaluation using a six-parameter probability distribution. This distribution is a weighted composite of three gamma distributions. The relationships for determining the distribution parameters from the generating unit parameters are derived. The distribution is easily integrated and the assumption of an integer shape parameter makes the calculations simpler without compromising the accuracy. This distribution has been tested on three systems over a wide range of forced outage rates. The distribution is simple and appears to be a good approximation to the exact discrete model. 1992.
