abstract
The preparation of cis-Mo(CO)4[P(OCH3)3]NHC5H10 by photolysis of Mo(CO)5P(OCH3)3 in the presence of piperidine is described. The structure of this complex has been determined by single-crystal x-ray diffraction methods. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P212121) with unit cell parameters a = 8.162 (4) , b = 11.708 (4) , c = 18.713 (6) , and calcd= 1.55 g cm-3 for Z = 4. Full-matrix least-squares refinement led to a final R value of 2.8% based on 1422 observed reflections. The most significant structural feature of the molecule is the existence of a weak, but chemically significant, intramolecular N-HO hydrogen bond. This interaction has been shown to greatly affect the lability of the molybdenum-piperidine bond. 1977, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
