In this work, we developed a Barycentric shading process for creating dynamic paintings in the contemporary Fauvist-Expressionist style. Both Fauvist and Expressionist movements are known for conveying emotion through intense, bold, and clashing colors along with distorted forms and perspectives. The exaggerated colors and shapes of this style make them difficult to emulate using processes based on common modeling and rendering approaches. However, Barycentric shading provides a powerful alternative to emulate such non-photorealistic artworks with a simple procedure. To demonstrate the efficiency of our Barycentric shading process, we re-created two paintings of Anne Garney as time-lapse animated artworks. Garney is one of the leading contemporary Fauvist-Expressionist painters. Her work includes strong, vivid colors and bright outlines typical in Fauvist paintings as well as painterly reflections. These aspects of her paintings are critical in demonstrating the power of our rendering process. Our methods for re-creating Garney's artwork as dynamic scenes emulates her style, while providing animated illumination, shadows, and reflections. Additionally, we added new elements to her scene that are still consistent with the original style.
