PHOTOCHEMICALLY ENHANCED CARBON CARBON BOND-FORMING REACTION BETWEEN CS2 AND [W(CO)5CH3]- - X-RAY STRUCTURE OF [PPN][W(CO)4(ETA-2-S2CCH3)] Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The reaction between carbon disulfide and [W(CO)5CH3] has been found to be greatly accelerated in the presence of UV light, with the quantitative formation of [W(CO)4(2-S2CCH3)]. This complex is prepared alternatively by photolysis of the [W(CO)5S2CCH3] complex, which was prepared from the thermal reaction of [W(CO)5CH3] and CS2. The chelating dithioacetate derivative of tungsten has been characterized as its [PPN] + salt by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. A rapid photochemical reaction between carbon dioxide and [W(CO)5-CH3] has been observed as well, but with the exclusive production of the formate complex [W(CO)5O2CH]. 1991, American Chemical Society.
