Stable tricoordinate mono and dihydrides of gallium, 1 and [(Ar)Ga(H)2], respectively, can be isolated by taking advantage of the kinetic stabilization afforded by bulky Ar substituents. The monohydride 1, prepared from [(Ar)2GaCl] and LiGaH4, is the product of an unusual rearrangement reaction. Ar = 2,4,6tBuC6H2. (Figure Presented.)
