Decision making in foreign policy involves the analysis of past and current data, the assessment of available options for action, and the identification of final policy choice in foreign affairs. Over the last several decades, foreign policy decision-making analysis has emerged as an important subfield of international relations, and students of foreign policy decision making have developed numerous powerful theories and models to help us understand how foreign policy decisions are made and what accounts for national foreign policy behavior.
