abstract
2019 Author(s). We study the highly nonlinear wave dynamics of 1d tensegrity metamaterials, with a focus on the interaction of a compression solitary pulse with an interface between elastically stiffening and softening materials. We observe an anomalous response of the examined system, which is characterized by the propagation of a train of reflected compression solitary waves in the stiffening branch, and the transmission of a solitary rarefaction wave with oscillatory tail in the softening branch.
