abstract
2019 Elsevier B.V. We theoretically investigate the effect of linear absorption on the stability of nonlinear vortex beams in dye-doped nematic liquid crystals. We show that the combined effects of intensity attenuation and thermal defocusing provide a stabilization mechanism which significantly extends the stable propagation distance of the vortex beam for first- and second-order topological charges.
