abstract
2019 IEEE. In this paper, a direct three phase multi-pulse AC-DC rectifier topology with high frequency isolation for fast-charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) is proposed. By using a multi-pulse approach, low order harmonics in the input current are eliminated. The proposed topology has the following advantages: no DC-link energy storage capacitor, high frequency galvanic isolation, higher power density (due to high switching frequency) and simple control scheme. The novelty of the proposed topology is its low complexity, ease of control and robust operation due to it's inherit 12-pulse rectifier behavior. The approach is easily scalable to several hundred kilowatts and is ideal for driving high power Level 3 fast EV battery chargers. Experimental results on scale down laboratory prototype 208V, 2kW unit are discussed.
