In a cohesive formulation, there is a volumetric constitutive relation for the bulk material and a surface constitutive relation for the cohesive surface or zone so that a characteristic length is introduced. Dynamic finite deformation analyses are carried out with the crack constrained to grow along the interface. Of particular interest is the effect of plastic dissipation on limiting crack speeds.
