abstract
The hydrocarbon trans-Ph[CC] 2 CH=CHMe (tritium-labelled in the benzene ring) was inserted into the tuberous roots of two Dahlia hybrids and found to be converted into the -alcohol trans-Ph[CC] 2 CH=CHCH 2 OH, the threo-diol Ph[CC] 2 CH(OH)CHMeOH, and the threo-triol Ph[CC] 2 CH(OH)CH(OH)CH 2 OH, but not into the hydrocarbon Ph[CC] 3 Me. The diol and triol had not previously been recognised as natural products.
