Perception vs. reality: edTPA perceptions and performance for teacher candidates of color and White candidates Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • 2019 Elsevier Ltd Many states are requiring candidates in teacher preparation programs (TPPs) to complete edTPA, a performance-based assessment from the Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning and Equity (SCALE) that measures a candidate's skills and knowledge concerning planning, instruction, and assessment. Studies report differences between racial/ethnic groups' edTPA scores; yet, there is a need for research that investigates which supports can best assist candidates completing edTPA. This study examines the extent to which differences exist between edTPA scores for candidates of color and White candidates at a southeastern urban College of Education, and investigates teacher candidates' perceptions of the supports they receive towards completing edTPA.
