Advanced chemigation systems for environmental safety and groundwater protection Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • A multifunction irrigation system has been developed which utilizes a separate dynamic in-canopy nozzle system for chemical application. Testing the system with a lithium tracer on four crops revealed substantial coverage improvement for the dynamic in-canopy nozzle system over traditional overhead chemigation and aerial application. The application of commercial pesticides on various crops and insect infestations has verified the superiority of the in-canopy application. Other stationary or manually adjustable in-canopy nozzles systems are being developed and tested which are producing similar results. Chemical application with low water volume (3,200 to 6,300 L/ha) and at rates which are a small fraction (1/4 to 1/16) of registered rates, is resulting in environmental improved pest control.
