abstract

• This study describes the modelling of the physical phenomena resulting in fibre failures and their subsequent effects on damage accumulation in composites. The model considers the microscopic mechanisms of failure and is used to build up a data base, using the indentified physical processes, in a simplified FE2 multiscale process. It is shown how this process may be used to predict the burst strengths of pressure vessels. 2012 Lavoisier.
