abstract
Model selection is an important aspect of well test interpretation because an incorrect reservoir model results in meaningless parameter estimates. Two aspects to model selection are presented. They are selecting the correct reservoir geometry and boundary conditions, and making the correct correlation between the features of the model pressure response and the field pressure response. These aspects to model selection indicates that the model used for interpretation must be consistent with the geologic model based on geology, geophysics, petrophysics and engineering data. Once a model has been selected and parameter estimates obtained from the interpretation, the model should be validated by comparing the results of the interpretation with the geologic model.
