Platelet uptake of serotonin in ethanol intoxication: a preliminary study. Academic Article uri icon

abstract

  • The results demonstrate small but significant increases in platelet uptake of 5HT with ethanol-induced motor impairment. Because of the size of the increase and variability inherent in 5HT uptake assays, these results should be considered preliminary until larger experimental and control groups are investigated. This effect of ethanol intoxication on platelets is significant when compared to the change in 5HT uptake in platelets of subjects who did not show motor impairment. The reason that the 5HT uptake in the latter group tended to decrease and had a larger variance is not known.
