Reliability Assessment of Power Systems Considering Flexible Demand Management Conference Paper uri icon

abstract

  • 2018 IEEE. With the development of smart grid technologies, flexible demand has emerged as a promising way to assist the operation of power systems through load shifting and load curtailment. It is important to quantitatively evaluate the reliability of power systems with flexible demand in order to maintain or enhance the reliability of power systems. In this paper, the chronological characteristics of flexible demand management considering both load curtailment and load shifting are modeled where different types of shiftable load are embedded. Moreover, the flexible demand management is formulated based on optimal power flow, where the objective is to minimize system total operation cost over the whole study period. The framework for quantitatively evaluating the reliability of power systems considering flexible demand management is proposed utilizing the time-sequential simulation technique according to the optimal dispatch problem. The proposed framework is verified in the modified IEEE RTS.
