abstract
2010 by Taylor and Francis Group, LLC. The limited adoption and use of real options by practicing managers in the architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry remain an important challenge. This chapter describes a risk-rich managerial practice in which real options can add value but are not fully exploited. This setting is used as a basis for identifying and describing specific barriers to widespread real options adoption and use by practicing project managers. These barriers are used to suggest tools, methods, and approaches that may reduce those barriers.
