In July 1964 a white policeman shot a Negro boy in New York. The riot that began in Harlem spread quickly to Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant section. This paper presents assessments by Bedford-Stuyvesant residents themselves of the causes, purposes, participants, and effects of the riot. 1968 by Columbia University Press.
