A simple observation of the behavior of a y in thirteenth-century China served as the seed from which a completely new discipline germinated and is today a globally established and recognized eld of entomology and forensic science-forensic entomology. Basic research is continuing to be the foundation for practice in forensic entomology, and this book reects the global representation and new dimensions that are dening the discipline as we move forward in the 21st century. This book is the product of both established and emerging scientists and practitioners of forensic entomology that represents 66 authors from 20 nations. The chapters represent the history and current status of forensic entomology worldwide and provide a synthesis of global progress in research and practice: the international dimensions of forensic entomology. The book also introduces some of the more recent and innovative research endeavors that are the result of a strong basic science foundation merging with state-of-the-art techniques and procedures: the frontiers of forensic entomology. In this chapter, the book is concluded with a summary of the latest publication trends in forensic entomology. Such an endeavor provides a coarse representation of the impact, current changes, and developments of forensic entomology through the analysis of peer-reviewed journal publications.
