Backwards lasing in atmospheric air from argon

2018 OSA. We demonstrate backwards lasing in atmospheric air without the need of molecular dissociation or ionization. Broadband femtosecond three-photon excitation of atmospheric Argon leads to stimulated emission. The air laser can be used for standoff detection.
